How to Crochet a Perfect Circle

Since we are all sitting at home right now I thought it would be a good time to work on a new skill. As I have gotten better at crocheting I have started to notice that when I would try to create a circle it wouldn’t be a circle. Where I would increase would create these lines and my circles would have points instead of being perfectly round. After some research on Pinterest and looking through some of my crochet books I found some great tips about how to fix this problem!  To make a circle instead of a hexagon shape you want to stagger your increases. When making a…

How to: Single Crochet, Half Double Crochet, and Double Crochet

When you are first starting to crochet, three of the main stitches you will be working with are Single Crochet (SC), Half Double Crochet (HDC), and Double Crochet (DC). Please keep in mind for this tutorial I will be working with the US versions of these Stitches. If you are using a pattern that is from the UK make sure to take a look at a conversion chart because their DC is our SC and so forth. It can get very confusing, I learned that the hard way! How to Increase and Decrease

In my patterns the most common tool I use to create my shapes is “increasing” and “decreasing”. This is a basic stitch that nearly every crochet pattern uses, so it is important to learn early on. This blog is intended to give simple step by step instructions on how to do each. You can use increasing and decreasing with any kind of stitch, but for this tutorial I will only be using Single Crochet because that is the stitch I typically use in my patterns. Decreasing becomes a little trickier for longer stitches (half double, double crochet, etc.) because there are additional yarn overs, but the basic concept stays the same…

    How to Curl Yarn

I recently got to make my very first couple set, a bride and a groom. My client was a recently engaged bride to be and fell in love with my dolls on Facebook. She wanted a bride and groom set to have for her upcoming wedding as a gift for her future husband and decoration at their wedding. For such a special occasion, I wanted to make sure she received exactly what she wanted so I made sure to ask her about everything from the dress shape to the hair color. She wanted a big ball gown dress (excellent choice), and brown hair for both the bride and groom. She…

How To Crochet Amigurumi Skirt Shapes

When crocheting and creating patterns, it is important to understand why and how to create different shapes. When it comes to the princess skirt, they are usually big and billowy, like a ballgown, or they are loose, like a modern dress. To create these different shapes is simple, but can make the difference when creating a look. I have written a 2 super basic patterns here for ballgown and straight skirts, as well as a pattern for the base of the skirt. When I am designing a pattern I always go back to these basic shapes, I use different colors or vary the size, but the structure of the pattern…
