“And I’ll know he’s the one when he makes me laugh” – Minnie Mouse
This adorable key chain is the companion to the Mouse Key Chain pattern I posted a few weeks ago. If you didn’t see that pattern and want to, click here!
This pattern is intended to be a fairly simple design, but she does have a few more pieces to her than her gentleman counter part so she does take a bit longer than he does to make. The design also does not require the key chain add on, I just thought it added a nice touch.
Pattern notes –
The final product should be about the size of a champagne cork.
The stitches should be tight in order to hold the stuffing in, and maintain the shape.
Time commitment: 1-2 hours
That’s all I need to say about that so let’s get on with it!
What you need:
Yarn, weight 4 – White (I use Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek Low-Pill Fiber, White), Red (Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek Low-Pill Fiber, Red), and Black (Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek Low-Pill Fiber, Black)
Crochet Hook, 3.5mm
Yarn Needle – I like the kind that has an angled tip, it is easier to sew with and tends so be a little sharper on the end.
Keychain – I got mine at Michael’s for about $3 for a pack of 12. They are located in the jewelry section.
Needle Nose Pliers – This is for attaching the keychain.

How to Make
Body:
R1: With White yarn, ch 2, sc 6 in second ch from the hook (leave a long tail and make sure it is on the outside of the body so it does not get stuffed over)
R2: sc 2 in in each sc (12 stitches)
R3: *sc 1, sc 2 in next sc* repeat 6 times (18 stitches)
R4-6: SC in each sc (18 stitches per row)
R7: With Black yarn, sc in each sc (18 stitches)
R8-10: SC in each sc (18 stitches per row)
R11: *sc, dec* repeat 6 times (12 stitches). This is a good time to stuff the item.
R12: *dec* repeat 6 times (6 stitches)
Tie off and close opening. Using the long tail from R1, sew up through the bottom so that the butt flattens out.
Skirt:
R1: With Red Yarn, chain 31 (leave a really long tail. You are going to use it to weave through and create the ruffles)
R2: In second ch from hook, *sc in next 2 stitches, inc* repeat x10, ch 1 and turn
R3: Sc in each sc
Tie off leaving a long tail.
Use the original tail to sew through the side of the chain that was not crocheted into. Use this is to pull the circle of the skirt a little tighter so it has the rippled look. Use the other tail to sew the edges together and then sew the skirt to the body along the line between the black and the white halves.
Bow:
*For the bow you are going to make 2 triangles and then fold them in half. To make a triangle, you increase in the last sc of each row.*
R1: With Red Yarn, ch 2, SC 2 into the second ch from the hook. Ch 1, turn (2 sts)
R2: sc in first sc, sc 2 in next sc, ch 1, turn (3 sts)
R3: sc in first 2 sc, sc 2 in next sc, ch 1, turn (4 sts)
R4: sc in first 3 sc, sc 2 in next sc, ch 1, turn (5 sts)
R5: sc in first 4 sc, sc 2 in next sc, ch 1, turn (6 sts)
R6: sc in first 5 sc, sc 2 in next sc, ch 1, turn (7 sts)
Tie off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold the triangle in half and stitch the edges together.
Ears (make 2):
R1: With Black yarn, ch 2, sc 6 into second ch from hook
R2: SC 2 in first 5 sc (10 stitches) – I purposefully did not complete the circle so one side would be flat. This is the side you will sew to the head.
Tie off
Attach the keychain to the top of the head in the very middle. Using needle nose pliers, open the bottom circle of the keychain, attach the open circle to the top of the head and then close the circle again so it is secure.
Sew the ears to the top of the head, slightly behind the keychain, then attach the bow so they are slightly in front of the keychain. If you put everything behind or in front the balance is off and the mouse will tilt forward or backward.
And there you have it! Now you can add your wonderful Mouse accessory to purses, backpacks, keys and more! Be careful though, she isn’t invincible!
