It is officially almost fall! In crafting and creating years that means I am already behind on my crocheting! I love to have my decorations up at the beginning of September, which is only a few weeks away. Honestly, though, I will probably use a fall color pallet as my home decor when we move into our permanent home because I love fall that much.
When you think of fall all kinds of things come to mind. Fall is the time for festivals, corn mazes, Halloween, crunchy leaves, and PUMPKINS! Soon every Starbucks will be serving pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkins patches will be opening their gates, and every grocery store will stock their bakery with pumpkin pie. So what better craft to kick of the season than little crocheted pumpkins??
Now this pattern is super simple. I purposefully created this pattern to be something I did not have to think to hard about and could crank out several finished projects in an hour. The size of the pumpkins can be altered by continuing to increase or stopping earlier, which I will explain within the pattern. I like having a variety of sizes since pumpkins themselves are not always a cookie cutter size.
Yarn – Orange and Brown(or any colors that matches your fall aesthetic) weight 4. I like Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek.
Hook – size 3.5mm
Scissors
Yarn needle
Stuffing
R1: Using Orange Yarn, magic loop, sc 6 into magic loop (you can also ch 2, then sc 6 into second chain from loop)
R2: sc 2 into each sc (12 sts)
R3: [sc, inc] x6 (18 sts)
R4: [sc 2, inc] x6 (24 sts)
R5: [sc 3, inc] x6 (30 sts)
R6: [sc 4, inc] x6 (36 sts)
R7: [sc 5, inc] x6 (42 sts)
R8: [sc 6, inc] x6 (48 sts)
R9: [sc 7, inc] x6 (54 sts)
R10: [sc 8, inc] x6 (60 sts)
R11-13: sc in each sc (60 sts)
R14: [sc 8, dec] x6 (54 sts)
R15: [sc 7, dec] x6 (48 sts)
R16: [sc 6, dec] x6 (42 sts)
R17: [sc 5, dec] x6 (36 sts)
R18: [sc 4, dec] x6 (30 sts)
R19: [sc 3, dec] x6 (24 sts)
R20: [sc 2, dec] x6 (18 sts)
This is where you will want to stuff the pumpkin, but do not over fill because you want to be able to create the indents
R21: [sc 1, dec] x6 (12 sts)
R22: [dec] x6 (6 sts) Tie off, leaving a very long tail to sew through to create the indents.
Using the tail, sew through the middle of the pumpkin and pull tight. Repeat this 6 times around the pumpkin, making sure to keep each previous pull tight.
R1: Using Brown yarn, magic loop, then sc 4 into loop (or ch 2 and sc 4 into second ch from the hook)
R2-4: sc in each sc (4 sts)
R5: [inc] x4 (8 sts) Tie off, leaving a tail for sewing onto pumpkin body
R1: ch 6
R2: sc in second ch from hook, sc in remaining sc. Tie off, leaving a tail for sewing to pumpkin body.
If you want to make a variety of sizes (which I highly recommend) only increase to to the diameter you desire. For example, my smallest pumpkin has 24 stitches as its largest round. Once you reach the size you want, do 3 more rows of that same size and then decrease back down to 6 stitches and tie off.
If you want taller pumpkins along with short stubby ones, add more rounds of even single crochets between R11 and R13. The more rounds there, the taller the pumpkin!
Now you are good to make as many pumpkins as you like! They don’t take much yarn so by the time you finish of a skein of yarn, your house will be full of fun little fall accents!
